I think that this is the first dress that I have ever finished without using a pattern.  It was much easier than I thought and I don’t think I’ll be worrying about finding patterns from now on, especially for dresses.  I can show you how I did it if anyone is interested. 

This dress used to be an old lady’s vintage nightie.  I reused the frill, the buttons and even the same button hole, so much of the work already done!  I googled how to make bias tape and also did this for the first time.  I made it way too thin and it was such a pain, but I will definitely be making it again as now I actually understand how you finish off necklines and armholes so that they look nice!  

 

 

I am pretty much learning to sew via tutorials on YouTube, it’s amazing the things that you can learn just by looking it up.  My mum is certainly not into sewing, but I clearly remember my big shearer dad making my dolls clothes on our old sewing machine when I was little.  What a cute memory to have really.

I also made this coat a while ago.  It has been worn to death all winter and I love it.

I used a new cord material that I got from an op shop and a vintage flannel sheet for the lining, it is so cosy.  The pattern is based on a Heidi & Finn pattern, but I did make a few changes in the end.
