.

I think that this is the first dress that I have ever finished without using a pattern.  It was much easier than I thought and I don’t think I’ll be worrying about finding patterns from now on, especially for dresses.  I can show you how I did it if anyone is interested.

This dress used to be an old lady’s vintage nightie.  I reused the frill, the buttons and even the same button hole, so much of the work already done!  I googled how to make bias tape and also did this for the first time.  I made it way too thin and it was such a pain, but I will definitely be making it again as now I actually understand how you finish off necklines and armholes so that they look nice!

I am pretty much learning to sew via tutorials on YouTube, it’s amazing the things that you can learn just by looking it up.  My mum is certainly not into sewing, but I clearly remember my big shearer dad making my dolls clothes on our old sewing machine when I was little.  What a cute memory to have really.

I also made this coat a while ago.  It has been worn to death all winter and I love it.

I used a new cord material that I got from an op shop and a vintage flannel sheet for the lining, it is so cosy.  The pattern is based on a Heidi & Finn pattern, but I did make a few changes in the end.

I’m linking up with Stacy at Hart & Sew’s Little Vintage Style.  Have a look at her completely awesome doll’s house suitcase.  I use old suitcases for all our toys, but man, this takes it to a new level of cool.  I’m going to try to make one for Ivy and for my little nieces for Christmas.

  1. oh I LOVE your wonderful creations! That dress is just perfect. My ave thing about re-dos is saving the details and making less work for myself.
And the coat is lovely. I made that Heidi and Finn pattern and I love your version without the tie. I think it makes it much more adaptable and easy wear for a toddler.
